It’s All About Mangoes!

Anyone who is interested in health and weight loss must have come across the latest superfood – the African mango. But has anyone actually found one? I live in a fairly large city and have scoured the markets, ethnic food shops and supermarkets and the closest I have got to African mangoes are from Peru!

But it turns out the only difference between African mangoes and those from other countries is to be found in the seed which contains some medicinal properties which can lower cholesterol and reduce obesity. Now I am a great fan of supplements in their place but I can’t help feeling that perhaps we are taking this magic diet fix thing a bit far. It certainly seems that every mango being grown in Africa is being dried and powered into teas and tablets.

But why not try eating fresh mango?  They are packed full of vitamins, minerals and cancer beating antioxidants.  When eating a reduced calorie diet it is important to make sure that you are still getting your nutrients so eating foods like mangoes ensure that you get all the vitamins you need. They are also full of fibre which fills you up so they are a great snack for keeping mid morning hunger at bay. And last, but not least, they are delicious!
